20 Reasons Why Mariah Carey is the Best-Selling Female Artist in History

On January 15, 2015, Mariah Carey announced she will launch her first Las Vegas residency on May 6, 2015 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. 
Carey is the best-selling female artist of all-time with over 200 million albums sold, and she leads all solo artists with 18 number one singles. During her 25 year career, she has won 5 Grammy Awards, ten American Music Awards, 18 World Music Awards, and 32 Billboard Music Awards. In 1995, her song "One Sweet" Day" with Boyz II Men set the record as the longest running single at number one (16 weeks). A decade later, in 2005, her single "We Belong Together" became the second longest running song at number one with 14 weeks at the top of the chart.

1.  2010 - "We Belong Together" Named Billboard Song of the Decade

in 2010, Billboard magazine named Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together" from The Emancipation of Mimi CD the "Song of the Decade" and the ninth most popular song of all-time.
In 2005, it became her 16th number one single and remained at the top of the chart for 14 consecutive weeks. It is the second longest running number one song in chart history behind her 1995 "One Sweet Day" collaboration with Boyz II Men which was number one for a record 16 weeks. In 2006, "We Belong Together" won Grammy Awards for Best RandB Song and Best Female RandB Vocal Performance.

2.  November 9. 2008 - World Legend Award

On November 9, 2008, Mariah Carey received the Legend Award at the World Music Awards held at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club in Monte Carlo, Monaco. She was recognized as the solo artist with the most number one singles, 18, second only to the Beatles who have 20 number one hits. 

3.  2008 - "Touch My Body" Sets Record As 18th Number One Single

In 2008, Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body" from her E=MC² CD became her 18th number one hit, setting a new record for solo artists. Elvis Presley previously held the record with 17 number one singles.

4.  February 6, 2006 - Three Grammy Awards

On February 6, 2006, Mariah Carey received three trophies at the 48th annual Grammy Awards held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Shewon Best Female RandB Vocal Performance and Best Rand Song for 'We Belong Together," and Best Contemporary RandB Album for The Emancipation Of Mimi.

5.  August 31, 2005 - World Music Awards Female Entertainer of the Year

On August 31, 2005, Mariah Carey was honored as the Female Entertainer of the Year at the World Music Awards held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.

6.  December 6. 2005 - Seven Billboard Music Awards

On December 6, 2005, Mariah Carey won seven Billboard Music Awards including Top Hot 100 Single for "We Belong Together."

7.  March 1, 2003 - Soul Train Quincy Jones Award for Lifetime Achievement

On March 1, 2003, Mariah Carey received the Quincy Jones Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Soul Train Music Awards held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California.

In 2000, Mariah Carey was honored at the World Music Awards as the Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium. Also in 2000, she performed in the VH1 Divas Live tribute to Diana Ross at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
